Serving as a Deacon
… by Sue Osgood ~ March, 2009
Being a deacon provides an opportunity and a blessing to both the deacon and the parishioners the deacon serves. Deacons enjoy the opportunity to get to know more people in the congregation than many members. It has been a blessing to me to be a confidant and to pray with those I serve as deacon. Parishioners really appreciate being in touch on a monthly or more frequent basis with a member of the church. Most like receiving cards, telephone calls, and chatting after services.
Serving as a deacon is a wonderful way to show I care about my fellow churchgoers…and a way to serve God.
Deacons of Union establish a "Deacons' Fund"
As the financial crisis around us worsens, more folks will need financial assistance for food, housing, and transportation. The Deacons at Union have agreed to give oversight to a "Deacon's Fund" so that we can be more proactive meeting needs in these uncertain times. -- February, 2009
