Next
month Passover will be observed in many Jewish homes. They
will spend four weeks preparing for this celebration by cleaning,
teaching and learning. Then the night of Passover they have
the Seder Dinner with the renactment of the first Passover
night. This is an object lesson the Lord instructed them to
do so they will never forget.
It seems appropriate at this time to tell you about the book
Moses by Charles Swindoll. It is the fourth volume
in his series "Great Lives From God's Word". Moses was set
apart by God to lead the Hebrew people out of bondage and
Egypt. The night before they left was a sleepless night for
all. For the Egyptians it was a night of distress and grief
as the Grim Reaper took the first child of each family. For
the Hebrews if was a night of protection because they obeyed
the instructions that God gave to Moses, and thus were passed
over by the Grim Reaper. Swindoll tells how God opened doors
for Moses and will open them for us when we obey Him.
This is a powerful book with many true stories and wisdom.
It is not only a book about Moses but about our relationship
with God. It leaves one with much to think about. Swindoll
concludes with these words, "Moses' life remains forever one
of those solid blocks of granite . . . . In times like these
we need a point of reference."
