Meet the Rev. Dr. Ron McHattie!

Rev. Dr. Ron McHattieRev. Dr. Ron McHattie became Temporary Pastor at Union Presbyterian Church in Los Altos on December 1, 2009.  He has moved here from the Seattle area.

Rev. McHattie received his theological education at Fuller Theological Seminary.  He served as Pastor/Head of Staff at West Valley Presbyterian Church in Cupertino for twenty years and served as Interim Pastor to two churches in Washington during the last three years.  Carol Denniston a member and leader at West Valley Presbyterian Church comments, “Dr. Ron McHattie is a strong Biblical teacher, has excellent leadership skills, has a strong passion for preaching, and is very personable.”

He is very well thought of in the San Jose Presbytery having served in a number of leadership rolls including Moderator of Presbytery and Chair of Council.  Rev. Brian Person said, “I've known Ron for the last 25 years and he's a man passionate about the Spirit, caring, and wants to get the Word of God applied to people's lives. He also knows quite a bit about the Presbyterian church and its different levels of inner workings — a devoted church statesman.”

Rev. Dr. Ron McHattieRev. McHattie’s sense of call came during a missions conference at his home church while in ninth grade.  He became engaged in ministry in a vocational sense during his freshman year at Whitworth College and has never looked back. He was ordained in 1972.

He met his wife, Jama Dee Taylor in 7th grade homeroom.  Jama attended the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma and Rev. McHattie attended Whitworth College in Spokane. Upon graduations, they married on June 12, 1968, and headed for Pasadena, California, where he attended Fuller Theological Seminary and Jama taught in the Glendale school system. Jama continues to teach as a sixth grade teacher at Milpitas Christian School in San Jose.  The McHatties have two children: daughter Michal, the oldest, is married with one three-year-old, and lives in Roseville.  Son, Matt, lives in Rocklin.

Union Presbyterian Church looks forward to Rev. Ron McHattie's ministry among us, with the positive and personal touch he brings to ministry.  His early vision for the church is to celebrate who we are as the people of Christ and thus promote the joy, healing, and other blessings that can come as we strive to serve Him with our hearts, minds, and deeds.
